Create a PostgreSQL database and link it to your app
Run a private managed PostgreSQL service on your workspace and expose it to an application as DATABASE_URL.
How managed databases work
Managed databases run as containers on the same VPS as your applications and are attached to the workspace's private Docker network. Their ports are not exposed to the internet. PostgreSQL 16, MySQL 8.4, Redis 7.4 and MongoDB 7 are available.
Create the database
- Open the workspace in the dashboard and choose to add a managed database (or open Deploy and pick the database method).
- Select PostgreSQL, give it a name and confirm. Credentials are generated for you and stored encrypted.
- Wait until the database shows as running. Its logs are available from the workspace page.
Link it to an application
- Open the application and select the Database tab.
- Choose the running database from the same workspace and save.
- VibingView writes an encrypted DATABASE_URL environment variable with the private connection string and queues a rebuild so the app picks it up.
Only databases on the same workspace can be linked. Your framework may still need configuration to read DATABASE_URL, run migrations or enable SSL settings appropriate for a private network.
Deleting safely
Unlinking removes DATABASE_URL from the application. Deleting a database explicitly removes its data volume, so take your own dump first. Rolling an application back to an earlier image does not roll back database contents.
