Glossary

Hosting terms, defined.

Every word you meet in the dashboard and the guides, explained in one paragraph each.

VPS (virtual private server)

A virtual machine with dedicated CPU, memory and disk on which you have full control. On VibingView, every workspace is one VPS reserved for one customer.

Related: Workspace

Workspace

VibingView's name for a customer VPS. A workspace hosts any number of applications and managed databases on the same server and is billed per term.

Related: VPS (virtual private server), Application

Application

A deployed project running as a container on a workspace. It gets a generated HTTPS hostname, can add custom domains, and keeps its last three builds for rollback.

Related: Deployment, Rollback

Deployment

One build-and-run of an application from a source revision. A deployment succeeds only when the container stays running and answers on its port.

Rollback

Switching an application back to a retained earlier image. It does not roll back database contents, volumes or secrets.

Docker BuildKit

The Docker build engine the workspace agent uses. It caches dependency layers so unchanged dependencies rebuild in seconds.

Railpack

An open-source build planner that turns a project without a Dockerfile into a container image. VibingView uses it as one of its build techniques.

Caddy

The reverse proxy on every workspace. It routes hostnames to containers and obtains and renews HTTPS certificates automatically.

Generated hostname

The address every application receives at creation, such as my-app-1a2b3c4d.apps.example.com, routed over HTTPS before any custom domain is added.

Custom domain

Your own domain pointed at an application. Ownership is proven by the DNS record itself because each workspace has a dedicated address.

Managed database

PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis or MongoDB running as a container on the workspace's private network, never exposed publicly by default.

Wallet

Prepaid euro credit from which workspaces, renewals and domains are paid. Card payments are handled by a merchant of record; crypto is accepted too.

Billing term

The prepaid period of a workspace: 1, 6 or 12 months, with discounts on longer terms. Cancelling returns the unused share as wallet credit.

MCP (Model Context Protocol)

An open protocol that lets AI editors call tools. VibingView's MCP connector exposes read-only inspection and scoped deploy actions to editors such as Claude Code and Cursor.

Account key

The API token every account has for the CLI and MCP connector. It can deploy and configure applications but can never delete data, reveal secrets or spend money.

Environment variable

A runtime setting injected when a container starts. Values are stored encrypted and are never written into the build or the image.

Core Web Vitals

Google's page-experience metrics: Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift. Dedicated servers help keep them stable under load.

Serverless

A model where you pay per request, per gigabyte and per function-second instead of for a fixed machine. Cheap at zero traffic; unpredictable under attacks or runaway loops.
